The start of an NGO is always very challenging. The desire to help is immense, but there is usually a limitation of resources to offer that help. AIRE is no exception. Thanks to the support of some volunteers and the monthly contributions of people who believe in our cause, we have been able to keep our doors open, and in January 2025, we will celebrate 4 years of operation.
An NGO is usually sustained through donations from individuals and companies, or through government funding to implement projects that meet public objectives. In addition, there are foundations and philanthropic organizations that provide funds for specific projects aligned with their missions through calls for proposals.
However, the difficulty in securing partnerships with the public sector or competing for grants is that there are requirements that new organizations, like ours, cannot meet right away. Typically, it is necessary to have at least 3 years of operation or to be registered with the Municipal Social Assistance Council or with the State Registry of Entities. To complete these registrations, a minimum time of operation is also required. AIRE only obtained these certificates in the second half of 2024, meaning that only now can we try to form new partnerships that can help us financially.
Our main source of funding is, therefore, donations from individuals. For this reason, we would like to leave a reflection for this Christmas and, perhaps, a commitment for 2025: make a donation, whether to AIRE or another NGO of your choice. Even a small contribution will certainly make a big difference.
During the Christmas season, we receive many requests from volunteers who want to buy gifts for the children, and we are very grateful for their generosity. However, the truth is that, while the children end up receiving many clothes and toys, there are not enough resources to cover essential expenses, such as paying the 13th salary for employees or covering an electricity bill. And while the children’s smiles when receiving a gift fill us with joy, much more is needed to shelter and integrate them into society so that they can have a dignified future here.
We are grateful to all those who have supported us monthly and to future supporters as well. Without your generosity, our work would not be possible. Thank you!
