The Nutcracker

Untitled design-53

In December, friends Frances Fukuda and Karina Blanck, from São Paulo Companhia de Dança (SPCD), organized a very special outing for the girls who attend ballet classes at AIRE. They took the group to watch the Nutcracker performance, fulfilling the dream of young dancers who cheered and were moved by the experience.

The ballet classes at AIRE take place on Saturdays and are offered free of charge to refugee girls or those in vulnerable situations from the Diadema region. They are part of the Project “Alegria em Movimento” and are taught by Angela Lida Lopez Cruz, a Venezuelan dancer and children’s instructor.

Frances and Karina were captivated by the project and came up with the idea of giving the girls the opportunity to watch a live dance performance. The outing, a blend of such different worlds and cultures, opened doors for the girls to dream and see new horizons.

Sometimes, people ask us how they can help AIRE. The truth is, there is no single way to help, but rather the desire to do good, the willingness, and creativity. What Frances and Karina offered was not just an outing, but a chance to experience a Brazil larger than the walls of AIRE, inspiring the girls to believe in themselves and know that with determination and effort, they can make their dreams come true.

Thank you so much, Frances and Karina!
