Mrs Shafiqa is married and the mother of four daughters and two sons. She is Afghan and has a very simple background, she came from the province of Herat in Afghanistan and barely knows how to read and write.
She had to leave her country when her family began to suffer threats and persecution after the Taliban took power in Afghanistan. She separated from her children and, together with her husband and youngest son, fled to Iran and then to Brazil.
It was a very big change in the life of Mrs. Shafiqa who had never even left her country, but she is grateful for being alive and being able to build a new life in Brazil. Her son has already found a job and she, who is a skilled seamstress, wants to use her skill to help supplement the family’s income.
We have already received a donation of a sewing machine and she is little by little learning projects that can be easily sold in Brazil, such as dishcloths, for example. We are also receiving donations of materials for our sewing workshop, such as fabrics, threads, scissors, etc. And if you know how to sew and want to teach Shafiqa other designs, contact us to schedule a visit! She will be very happy to meet new people and learn new projects.
