The aim of this project is to offer ballet classes to refugee girls or those in vulnerable situations in the Diadema region of São Paulo. The classes will be taught by Angela Ida Lopez Cruz, a Venezuelan dancer, wife, and mother of two girls, who has a deep passion for teaching and bringing joy to children through dance.
The project is carried out in partnership with the Free Methodist Church of Diadema, which provides the space on Saturdays when the classes take place.

Since the beginning of our work welcoming refugees, we have realized that one of the main needs is learning the Portuguese language. Without proficiency in the language, it becomes extremely difficult to communicate, find employment, gain independence, and integrate into Brazilian society.
The goal of this project is to offer Portuguese classes to AIRE residents and to any refugees who wish to participate, even if they do not live in the house. The classes are coordinated by Julio Cesar Nascimento, a teacher fluent in English and Spanish, who has a deep passion for and respect toward the diverse cultures we come into contact with at AIRE.

This project began in a simple way, with the donation of a sewing machine, fabrics, and other materials. Little by little, it grew, and today, with the support of a few volunteers, it is fully operational.
We now have a space that has been converted into a workshop, where refugee women have the opportunity to work on pieces that are later sold at bazaars. All profits from the sale of these items go directly to them. In addition to gaining a space where they can dedicate themselves to something that is entirely their own, the participants also have the chance to contribute to their family’s monthly income, achieve dignity, and promote independence.
